Under a leaden gray autumn sky, an honor guard for a military funeral stands at attention at Arlington National Cemetery. The wind blows the flags as taps is being played. This scene is repeated many times a day at the Cemetery - and it never fails to strike a deep feeling of sorrow within me. I have gone to far too many funerals at Arlington, at least it is a beautiful and quiet resting place.

Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, is a military cemetery in the United States of America, established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, formerly the estate of the family of Confederate general Robert E. Lee's wife Mary Anna (Custis) Lee, a great grand-daughter of Martha Washington. The cemetery is situated directly across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is served by the Arlington Cemetery station on the Blue Line of the Washington Metro system.

Terry Rowe

Terry Rowe has a lifetime of experience in the arts. She is a creative exploring photography, graphic design, stitchery, jewelry making, and sculpting. One of the original founders of the Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria, Virginia, she has been actively involved in the arts for over twenty years. She recently retired, after 41 years of service, as the Art Director, House Creative Services, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, U.S. House of Representatives. In her photographs, Terry seeks to capture a moment, to give the viewer a glimpse of place and time that arrests the movement of life and allows one to savor what is there to be seen. She has a camera in her hands every day, and her favorite sound is the sweet click of the shutter...
